Beach homeowners fear they might not be able to refinance or rebuild their homes following a disaster after county leaders approved an ordinance Tuesday that left practically all homes on Beach Drive and Las Olas Drive in Aptos in violation of new development rules.

This amendment will impact (negatively) the use of your coastal property by amending the definition of the “Site Area, Net” for residential properties. It will exclude the area from the top of a coastal bluff to the bayward property line, not including coastal arroyos, from being considered in a parcel’s size when determining the allowable size of your home.
