JON CORN
Dear Clients and Colleagues –

Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins managed to get a Coastal Commission “Power to Fine” bill through the system. We’ll call this a “lite” version of the far more robust bill that failed last year. It’s certainly less troubling than AB 976, but sets a bad precedent on a slippery slope (no pun intended).

The Commission now has power to fine coastal property owners (up to $11,250 per day!) who block public access to the beach. This new power does not extend to alleged violations of permit requirements or conditions. The LA Times article (link) explains more. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Jon

Blocking Californians’ beach access will soon carry a hefty fine
