During a San Rafael hearing of the California Coastal Commission that backers saw as a the culmination of more than a year of work, the law regulating and limiting vacation rentals in the Live Oak area and beyond won unanimous approval from the 12-member body, despite continued opposition by some vacation home owners.
The California Coastal Commission will hold a public hearing and act on the request by Santa Cruz County to add LCP regulations specific to vacation rentals in the Santa Cruz County coastal zone on Wednesday July 13, 2011 in San Rafael, CA
The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved not one but two new sets of regulations that have been criticized as overregulation — unless you knew that both received extensive public airings and were subjected to considerable debate.
The vacation rental ordinance joins Santa Cruz County with other communities that have sought to limit temporary rentals, including Capitola, Monterey and Carmel. It passed 4-1, with Supervisor Greg Caput dissenting.

SANTA CRUZ — The county Planning Commission on Wednesday recommended approving an ordinance that would, for the first time, bring vacation rental homes under the scrutiny of county regulators.
Public hearing to consider an Ordinance adding new sections to Chapter 13.10 of the Santa Cruz County Code, adding a definition to Section 13.10.700-V of the Santa Cruz County Code, and adoption of a negative declaration as to the environmental effects of the proposed ordinance, all related to vacation rentals. Chapter 13.10 is a coastal implementing ordinance.
