The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is seeking applicants for their sanctuary advisory council. The advisory council was established in 1994 to ensure public participation in the management of the sanctuary. The volunteer council meets every two months.
The plan includes an “action plan” that discourages coastal armoring by treating seawalls as the last resort. Some experts have tied seawalls to beach erosion. The proposal calls for taking preventative measures first, then using alternatives to seawalls, and finally arguing for some preferred forms of seawalls.
The Southern Monterey Bay Coastal Erosion Workgroup (SMBCEW) will be holding a public meeting on July 14, 2006.
Monterey Bay National Marine Sancturary is working on a new plan. It is biased against the seawalls which protect our homes and businesses. This is the latest threat to protecting our coast.
